As the equatorial band on Kel had become all but uninhabitable, research had begun in the polar regions to attempt to find a process of reversing the runaway greenhouse effect plaguing the planet. Simultaneously, another, secret project was being conducted far below the ice: genetic experiments attempting to alter the temperature tolerance of the pan-human species occupying this region of the solar system. The experiments were well-intentioned but were beginning to have strange, unforeseen effects on their test subjects....
